Water Safety | During the 2022 SLA Father's Day Kid's Fishing Contest Weigh-In, Scott County Sheriff's Sergeant Jacob Edwinson and Recreational Safety Deputy Max Kes were on hand to deliver some important Water Safety Tips to the Kids'! Always wear a Life Jacket when in a boat or on a dock!
Water Safety Call 911 and then remember the following steps when encountering an emergency in the water:
Reach, Throw, Row and Go!
Step 1 - Reach | If close enough to the dock or shore, Reach to them to try to bring them to safety.
Step 2 - Throw | Throw something to them (like a floatable disk with a rope) to help bring them to safety.
Step 3 - Row | Put on a life jacket and get in a boat and row to the victim to help bring them to safety.
Step 4 - Go | Put on a life jacket and as a very last resort an adult can get into the water to bring the victim to safety.
Resident Liz Weninger emphasized that ALL Kids and Adults should take swim lessons, not just for a summer but for a lifetime!
Thanks to everyone who came out to this year's fishing event!
