Water Skiing Returns Home to Spring Lake in 2026

Water skiing has deep roots on Spring Lake, and today that tradition is being proudly carried forward by the Spring Lake Water Ski Club (SLWSC). While the SLWSC is being officially reintroduced, its story stretches back more than 70 years and remains closely tied to the families, memories, and summers that define life on Spring Lake.

Spring Lake first became a hub for organized water skiing in the early 1950s with the formation of the original SLWSC. The SLWSC quickly became a centerpiece of summer life and was best known for its Fourth of July ski shows, which drew crowds to the shoreline year after year. For nearly three decades, these performances helped shape the lake’s summer traditions.

In 1957, the Prior Lake Water Ski Association (PLWSA) was founded and became one of the region’s most established water ski organizations. By the late 1970s, many skiers were members of both clubs, strengthening the connection between the lakes. When the original Spring Lake Water Ski Club disbanded in 1979, water skiing continued on Spring Lake through regular practices, family ski nights, and tournaments hosted by the PLWSA. A ski jump remained on Spring Lake each summer until 2017, and a slalom course continued in use through 2024, reinforcing Spring Lake’s long-standing role as an important training and performance site.

Beginning in the summer of 2026, residents will once again revive this legacy by reintroducing the Spring Lake Water Ski Club. As part of this renewal, the slalom course will also return in 2026, restoring a key element of the lake’s skiing heritage and creating new opportunities for skill development and recreation. The club’s mission remains timeless: to promote water skiing, water safety, community, and good sportsmanship while building confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships.

The SLWSC is a nonprofit organization made up of Spring Lake residents and community members who want to see this tradition thrive. The club is proud to be supported by the Spring Lake Association as a sponsor, helping ensure a strong and successful relaunch.
